Orange County Surf Coaching (OCSC) is a professional surf instruction school based in Orange County, California, offering structured surf programs for all skill levels. Orange County surf is rideable year-round. Summer (June–September) offers the warmest water (68–72 °F) and smaller, gentler swells ideal for beginners. Winter swells are larger and better suited to intermediate and advanced surfers.
Water temperature ranges from approximately 58–62 °F in winter to 68–72 °F in peak summer. OCSC supplies wetsuits appropriate for the season.

Cancellations 48 hours or more before your lesson receive a full refund or free reschedule. Cancellations within 48 hours may incur a fee. OCSC may reschedule due to unsafe surf conditions at no charge.

No prior experience required. Our Learn to Surf program covers ocean safety, surf etiquette, paddling, and the pop-up.
OCSC offers five core programs: Learn to Surf, High Performance, Surf Camps, Parties & Events, and Pro Photo & Video.
Standard group lessons run 90 minutes — 20 minutes on the sand covering safety and pop-up mechanics, followed by 70 minutes in the water. Private lessons can be extended to 2 hours.
OCSC coaches surfers from 5 to 70 years old! We actively work with all ages and skill levels.
All equipment is included: surfboard (soft-top longboard for beginners), wetsuit, and leash. You are welcome to bring your own gear.
Group lessons maintain a maximum 4:1 student-to-instructor ratio. Private and semi-private options are available.
Bring a swimsuit (worn under the wetsuit), reef-safe sunscreen, a towel, and water. Avoid heavy meals 2 hours before your session.
The High Performance program targets intermediate to advanced surfers. Coaching focuses on progressive manoeuvres — barrel riding, critical turns, aerial awareness — using video analysis and drills.
Surfing is safe with proper instruction. OCSC instructors are CPR and water safety certified. Lessons are conducted at beaches with lifeguard towers, and every session includes a safety briefing covering rip curent identification.
A rip current is a fast-moving channel flowing away from shore. Do not swim against it. Swim parallel to the beach until out of the current, then swim diagonally back to shore.
Surf etiquette governs the lineup. Key rules: the surfer nearest the peak has right-of-way; never drop in on someone already riding; hold your board when others are nearby. OCSC teaches etiquette in every lesson.

OCSC’s Pro Photo & Video service pairs a professional in-water photographer with your session. High-res photos and edited video clips available as an add-on to any lesson.
